Allgäu market town Bad Hindelang presents new book – original recipes, …

Eating and cooking in Bad Hindelang means (contemporary) history and stories, alpine farming and organic farming. Sustainable awareness raising for the local mountain and alpine economy, strengthening regional cycles and stimulating demand for local products are omnipresent. In the book “Easse und ‘s olte Wisse”, which the market community Bad Hindelang has now been published and that in context publishing house Augsburg/Nuremberg was published, 18 locals of advanced age have their say. They reveal their original recipes and personal stories, describe what life used to be like and explain why the lovingly simply prepared dishes from grandma’s kitchen still bring back positive memories of their own childhood to this day.

On behalf of Bad Hindelang you will receive a current press release as well as a selection of press photos for illustration. We ask for current reporting. You can also find press releases and press photos in our media downloads. The press release and press photos are free of charge.

“A homage to the people of Bad Hindelang”

Allgäu market town presents new book – original recipes, wisdom and amusing things – 18 contemporary witnesses take part

Bad Hindelang (dk). “We grew up on potatoes and milk – and when we were feeling particularly good, we also had butter.” Regina Weishaupt tells us about her childhood, talking about renunciation and hunger as well as the everyday life of a family of ten in the 1930s and 1940s . The now 96-year-old senior from the Hinterstein district of Bad Hindelanger also remembers many beautiful moments. “We always worked, but we were still satisfied.” Smells and scents are particularly firmly anchored in their memories to this day. In the new cookbook “Easse und ‘s olte Wisse” (“Food and Ancient Knowledge”), Regina Weishaupt has put her expertise to paper with like-minded people. The result is a special book with original recipes and life stories. The municipality of Bad Hindelang (Allgäu) – a Bavarian “gourmet resort” since 2018 – has now officially presented the book at the Berggasthof Giebelhaus in Hinterstein. The work was published by context publishing house Augsburg/Nuremberg.

“The book is a homage to the people who have lived, worked and cooked in Bad Hindelang over the past 100 years. I am very pleased that we have managed to preserve and document this knowledge for future generations. The book reflects the tight economic cycles in the town in words and pictures and shows the importance that food and cooking have in Bad Hindelang and the Allgäu Alps to this day,” says the mayor of Bad Hindelang, Dr. Sabine Rödel.

Eating and cooking in Bad Hindelang means (contemporary) history and stories, alpine farming and organic farming. Sustainable awareness raising for the local mountain and alpine economy, strengthening regional cycles and stimulating demand for local products are omnipresent. The concepts for the weekly market and the Hindelang organic and farmers’ market are also based on regional production.

In the cookbook “Easse und ‘s olte Wisse” 18 locals of advanced age have their say. They reveal their original recipes and personal stories, describe what life used to be like and explain why the lovingly simply prepared dishes from grandma’s kitchen still bring back positive memories of their own childhood to this day. Current topics such as energy saving and sustainability also play a role in the book – the dishes at the time were often prepared in one pot and with regional ingredients.

“The book underlines how vitally important it is to provide people with local food locally, especially in times of rising energy prices and interrupted supply chains. In addition, it very aptly addresses the core messages that we have enshrined in our living space concept ‘Our Bad Hindelang 2030’. It’s about transferring traditional knowledge and ecologically high-quality products from the community-wide landscape conservation project ‘Ecomodel Hindelang’ to local tourism businesses and retailers,” says community leader Dr. Sabine Rödel.
