LEGEND : Thousands unite on the Jack Ride, supporting initiatives that arm our youth with essential mental health education

TORONTO, April 3, 2024 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — In response to the alarming youth mental health crisis unfolding across our country, Jack.org, with the support of Bank of America, its presenting sponsor, invites the entire nation to rally around the Jack Ride, the cycling event dedicated to the mental health of young people in Canada. Funds raised during the Jack Ride support vital mental health education programs for our youth across Canada, teaching them to identify the signs of mental distress, initiate caring dialogues with their peers, and recognize when and the appropriate place to seek professional support.

Mental health is inseparable from health, yet Canada is at the bottom of developed nations for the mental well-being of young people and has one of the highest suicide rates1 highest among adolescents While one in five young people will face a mental disorder, a large proportion of them lack mental health education, a key tool for accessing the necessary support.

The Jack Ride aims to be the catalyst for radical change, by funding programs that equip young people with the knowledge and tools necessary to face challenges, develop resilience and lay the foundations for a mentally healthy life. For 15 years, Jack Ride participants have raised more than $10 million to benefit youth mental health. This year, the ambition is to raise $1.5 million to continue working to build a future where every young person has the skills and support necessary to thrive.

Cyclists of all levels and families are cordially invited to this event, with three participation options:

  • Caledon, Ontario: Main Race, May 25, 2024
  • Canmore, Alberta: Run run by volunteers, July 13, 2024
  • Virtually: Participate on your schedule, wherever you like to ride

“The youth mental health crisis has been an urgent reality for far too long,” said Rowena Pinto, President and CEO of Jack.org. “Early intervention and education are levers that save lives and significantly improve quality of life. It is imperative to invest in programs that prepare our young people for healthy futures and to expand our action across the Canada. Our gratitude goes to our partners and community advocates for their resolute commitment alongside us in building a better world.”

“As a nurse, I support many people on a daily basis during the most difficult periods of their lives,” says Dee Mackintosh, participating in the Jack Ride for the third time. “Jack.org’s work is crucial because it empowers individuals to speak openly about their challenges and ensures they know how and where to find the support they need.
